01 july 2018

Documentary production studio YastrebFilm has begun shooting a new documentary about polar bears.

The polar bear is the largest terrestrial carnivore. They inhabit the Arctic for thousands of years. According to the latest data, they count from 14 to 25 thousand animals, among which from 5.3 to 8.2 thousand individuals inhabit the Russian Arctic.

The polar bear is in the Red List of Threatened Species. The reasons for that are the global warming, melting of glaciers, oil and gas fields development and the air pollution. If the melting of glaciers continues, then, according to the calculations of scientists, in 30 years time the polar bears will only remain in zoos. And far not every zoo can create comfortable conditions for their existence.

Film Director Sergey Yastrzhembskiy has set out to the shores of the Arctic Ocean, to the habitat of polar bears. But nowadays, on the shelf of the Kara Sea the bears are obliged to share their land with people, who extract the oil here. It is believed that this directly harms the population of polar bears and leads to their extinction.

The YastrebFilm crew is to find out, whether it’s true or not.
